The kitchen and I have never been great friends, although I loved baking for our six children when they were young. When my husband retired at 65, he took over cooking the meals which was great as I was still working full-time. Unfortunately, he is now no longer able to cook due to being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, and I have been relegated to the kitchen again.
One of my health issues is arthritis and this can be very limiting to what a person is able to do. Standing at the bench preparing meals causes my back to ache as well as causing problems with my hands. Cutting, picking things up, opening things, all are much more difficult these days as my grip strength is not what it used to be, and my hands are often in pain.
Due to these health issues with both my husband and myself, we applied for Aged Care assistance and to our great delight, discovered that within the package, Lite n' Easy was available to us both.
We buy the lunches and standard dinners and find them to be very satisfying. The dinners are slightly too much for me but not quite enough for my husband, so he gets the extra from my meal and we're both happy. The variety of meals on offer is plentiful and the taste is great. Our favourites are the Spaghetti Bolognaise, Tortilla Stacks and Sweet & Sour Chicken - yum!
To my delight, Lite n’ Easy also helps me keep my weight in check, which in-turn helps me to stay as healthy as possible. I pride myself on waking up happy every day, just because I woke up! We have the physiotherapist come to the house and they are impressed with my energy levels and that I am still able to all the exercises, even star jumps, at my age!
As far as family goes, it is great to have many of our 6 adult children and lots of grandkids close by, and we still enjoy travelling overseas when we can as some of our family are in New Zealand.
Lite n’ Easy helps us to continue to eat well, so we can enjoy our “senior” years to the utmost.
